Yes, Open Minds does accept State Assistance payments. Parents are responsible for any unpaid portion of their tuition agreement.
Q: What are Open Minds hours?
Our hours of operation are Monday thru Friday 6:30am to 5:30pm at our Olathe locations.
Q: How are parents kept informed about their child’s progress?
We take great care to communicate with parents on a daily basis at drop off and pick up times. Open Minds does two evaluations per year and offers a parent conference each time. Daily sheets are sent home each day with pertinent information from the day. Parents are welcome to schedule a teacher meeting any time they want to speak about their child, or any issue in their child’s classroom.
Q: Are any family events scheduled throughout the year?
Yes, each year we host a Trunk or Treat for Halloween, a Thanksgiving Luncheon, a Holiday Program in December, a Spelling Bee, and a Preschool Graduation. We also have classroom parties and events throughout the year that we invite parents and families to.
Q: What type of curriculum is followed at Open Minds?
Lesson Plans are written weekly by the teachers and follow the Highscope Curriculum. Our childcare program involves developmentally appropriate activities in areas such as: sensory, math, reading, writing, science, and small and gross motor activities. Each age group, infants through pre-k has Spanish weekly. Technology is included for students 2 years and up. Lifetime Sports and Second Steps are included for children 3 years and up.
Q: Do parents have to volunteer their time at the center?
No, but they may visit their child’s classroom at any time and children always love to see their parents involved. We have an open door policy for parents.
Q: What is the educational level of the teachers?
Teachers meet or exceed all state of Kansas requirements. Open Minds seeks teachers with a minimum of an Associates degree in Education or a CDA with experience; a bachelor’s degree is preferred.
